Standard Chartered donates meals and food packages to urban slums

Standard Chartered Bangladesh has provided individuals and families in
need with food packages and cooked meals in partnership with the Bidyanondo Foundation. In total,
this intervention – to fight hunger and establish greater food security – has reached approximately
12,000 individuals across Dhaka.
This initiative was started during Ramadan with the donation of 2,000 hot sehri meals to ultra-poor
people who are either slum dwellers or who sleep on footpaths around Dhaka. As part of this effort,
a total of 2,000 households have also received food packages. Each food package is designed to
provide sustenance for a family for 15 days. To meet dietary and nutrition needs, food packages
contain rice, pulses, cooking oil, milk, and other essentials. A thousand of these beneficiary
households are comprised of low wage earners whose livelihoods have been heavily impacted by
damages caused by the Bangabazar fire. The remaining 1,000 households are low-income families
from Dhaka slum communities.
Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “It is a
blessing to play a role in alleviating and reducing the hardships faced by those who are struggling
to put food on the table. Providing underprivileged residents with food packages, in a difficult time,
