B Mirror Report: All scheduled banks across Bangladesh remain open today, Saturday, as part of arrangements to adjust the extended Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Tomorrow, Sunday (May 24), will be the final working day before the Eid break begins.
Bangladesh Bank said all branches and sub-branches of scheduled banks will operate according to regular banking hours on May 23 and 24. Customers will be able to carry out transactions from 10:00am to 3:00pm, while banks will remain open until 5:00pm for official and administrative work.
The central bank issued a circular regarding the matter on May 18 through its Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDMAD), following a government notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
Under the directive, all banks in the country will remain closed from May 25 to May 31 for the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
Despite the long holiday, limited banking services will remain available in major garment industry zones to facilitate the payment of salaries, bonuses, and allowances to workers, as well as to support import-export activities.
Commercial bank branches in Dhaka metropolitan area, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram connected to the garment sector will operate on May 25 and 26 on a limited scale.
On those two days, banking hours will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm, while customer transactions will be allowed from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Bangladesh Bank also said branches, sub-branches, and booths located in sea, land, and airports will continue to provide 24-hour services throughout the week as usual.
Limited banking activities related to import and export operations will continue during the Eid holidays, except on Eid day itself.
The central bank added that officials and employees working during the holiday period will receive additional allowances in accordance with existing regulations.
