NCC bank celebrates 33 years eyes Islamic banking

NCC Bank has celebrated its 33rd founding anniversary with a commitment to sustainable growth, customer trust, innovation, and the transition to Shariah-based banking. On May 17, 2025, Chairman Md. Nurun Newaz Salim inaugurated the events arranged for this occasion by cutting a cake at the bank’s head office. A discussion meeting, presided over by Managing Director M. Shamsul Arefin, highlighted the bank’s progress, transformation, and future plans. The event was attended by Vice-Chairman Engineer Abdus Salam, Executive Committee Chairman Khairul Alam Chaklader, former Vice-Chairman Tanzina Ali, Directors Syed Asif Nizamuddin & Morshedul Alam Chaklader, Independent Director Meer Sajed-Ul-Basher, FCA, and Audit Committee Chairman Md. Amirul Islam, FCS, FCA. along with Additional Managing Director M. Khurshed Alam, Deputy Managing Directors Md. Zakir Anam, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman and Md. Habibur Rahman, and all departmental heads from the head office. Additionally, managers from various branches joined the event via digital platforms.

Chairman Md. Nurun Newaz Salim stated that since its establishment on May 17, 1993, NCC Bank has been playing a vital role in the country’s economic progress. Over the past 33 years, thanks to good governance, customer trust, and visionary leadership, the bank has successfully navigated various economic challenges. It has now become one of the most reliable and sustainable financial institutions in the country. He mentioned that they aim to continue this success by focusing on inclusive and Shariah-based services. Already, 4 full-fledged Islamic branches and 32 Islamic banking windows have been launched in different regions of the country.

Managing Director M. Shamsul Arefin said that through good governance and risk management, NCC Bank has transformed into a technology-driven banking framework. Alongside deposit and loan growth, priority is being given to digital transformation, customer-centric services, and sustainable banking. He further stated that, subject to regulatory approval, the bank will gradually transition to fully Shariah-based banking over the next four years. Work is ongoing to expand AI-based personalized banking, Bangla QR payments, virtual cards, and online payment gateways to provide customers with seamless services anytime, anywhere.

At the end of the event, Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam Barakati, Chairman of the bank’s Shariah Supervisory Committee, offered prayers and supplications (doa and munajat) for the continued prosperity, stability, and success of NCC Bank.

It is worth noting that on the occasion of this year’s founding anniversary, NCC Bank has undertaken several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, prioritizing income-generating activities for those affected by adverse environmental impacts.
