B Mirror Report: Bangladesh and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in the energy sector.
The agreement was signed on Thursday at the US Department of Energy by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, according to the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.
The MoU aims to enhance Bangladesh’s long-term energy security, diversify energy sources, and ensure stable energy supply chains amid the ongoing global energy crisis.
Under the agreement, the two countries will cooperate in oil, gas, geothermal energy, and bioenergy, while also promoting research, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.
Officials said the deal would help Bangladesh import LNG, LPG, and other energy products from the United States at competitive prices.

The MoU is being viewed as significant in the context of the continuing global energy crisis and tensions in the Middle East. Officials said the agreement would help Bangladesh enhance its long-term energy security, stabilize supply systems, and diversify energy sources.
According to the embassy, the agreement will support Bangladesh’s efforts to secure affordable and sustainable energy supplies while opening new avenues for broader energy cooperation between the two countries.
Under the deal, Bangladesh and the United States will cooperate in areas including oil, gas, geothermal energy, and bioenergy. The agreement will also facilitate capacity building, research collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise.
Officials said the MoU is expected to support Bangladesh’s import of liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and other energy products from the United States at competitive prices.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman described the agreement as another milestone in Bangladesh-US relations. He thanked Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and US President Donald Trump for supporting the initiative.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright termed the agreement a historic advancement in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Officials from the Bangladesh Embassy and senior representatives of the US Department of Energy were also present at the event.
