B Mirror Report: Four more ready-made garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh have received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, further strengthening the country’s position as a global hub for sustainable apparel production.
With the latest additions, Bangladesh now has a total of 284 LEED-certified RMG factories, including 121 Platinum-rated and 144 Gold-rated units. The country also hosts 52 of the world’s top 100 highest-rated LEED-certified factories, highlighting its rapid progress in green industrial development.
The newly certified factories include Pahartoli Textiles Limited, Unit-02 in North Pahartali, Chattogram, which secured a Platinum rating with 86 points under LEED BD+C: New Construction v4. Welldone Apparel Ltd in Sreepur, Gazipur, earned a Gold rating with 75 points under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1. Everbright Sweater Ltd in Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka achieved a Platinum rating with 83 points, while Siam Computerized Elastic Industries Ltd.-MUMTEX in Gazipur also secured a Platinum rating with 84 points under the same system.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the achievement, saying it reflects the sector’s continued commitment to energy efficiency, sustainable production, and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.
Former BGMEA director and Denim Expert Ltd. Additional Managing Director Mohiuddin Rubel said the steady increase in LEED-certified factories shows that Bangladesh’s garment sector is actively adopting green technologies and international standards. He noted that significant investments have been made in energy-efficient machinery, water conservation systems, waste management, and improved workplace environments.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that these sustainability achievements receive proper recognition from global buyers, which would further encourage environmentally responsible production.
The LEED certification, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an internationally recognized standard for green building practices, assessing energy efficiency, environmental quality, sustainable site development, and resource management.
Analysts say Bangladesh’s growing leadership in green garment factories enhances its global competitiveness while meeting increasing international demand for sustainable supply chains.
