PM Inaugurates Tk 4,635 Cr Surma River development project

B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of the Surma River bank development project in Sylhet, aimed at beautification and flood protection along the river.

The project, valued at approximately Tk 4,635 crore, was formally launched around 11:30 am at Chandni Ghat in the city. Under the initiative, infrastructure will be developed on both sides of the Surma River to enhance riverbank protection, improve urban aesthetics, and strengthen flood control measures.

During the ceremony, the Prime Minister reviewed project progress and planning and directed authorities to ensure timely completion while maintaining construction quality.

Officials said the project will help reduce river erosion, improve environmental conditions, and create better opportunities for public movement and recreation for city residents.

The inauguration event was attended by the Prime Minister’s spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Commerce Minister Khondaker Abdul Muktiar, Labour and Expatriates Welfare Minister Arifur Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Kayum Chowdhury, senior political leaders, Members of Parliament from Sylhet, and top government officials including the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet.
