B Mirror Report: A record 5,709 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers were handled in a single day at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) yard of Chattogram Port, marking the highest daily container handling in the terminal’s history.
Port Secretary Syed Refaet Hamim confirmed the achievement, describing it as a significant milestone in the operational history of the country’s main seaport.
The NCT yard is operated by Chattogram Dry Dock Limited under the supervision of the Chattogram Port Authority. Officials said the achievement reflects improved efficiency and growing capacity at the port.
The previous record stood at 5,484 TEUs, achieved on April 11. Over the last 24 hours, the port handled a total of 10,162 TEUs across all terminals, further highlighting its operational capability.
The milestone coincided with International Workers’ Day, as the port authority recognized the contributions of workers across various terminals. The port secretary attributed the success to the dedication and patriotism of the workers, dedicating the record to them on the occasion of May Day.
Officials also credited ongoing initiatives by the Chattogram Port Authority to strengthen trade through maritime routes and enhance overall port capacity. They expressed optimism that such record-breaking performance will contribute positively to the country’s economy.
