B Mirror Report: Bangladesh is set to hold discussions on resuming manpower export to Malaysia, as Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury is scheduled to visit Kuala Lumpur on April 8.
“I have received an invitation from the relevant Malaysian ministry. Discussions will be held there, and efforts will be made to quickly reopen the labour market. The outcome will be shared with everyone. The ministry does not engage in any syndicate and remains open to all,” the minister told reporters on Monday.
He made the remarks at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after receiving the body of a Bangladeshi worker who was killed in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia.
The minister also said that seven Bangladeshi workers have died so far in the Middle East conflict. Of them, four bodies have been brought back to Bangladesh, while one was buried in Saudi Arabia with the consent of the family.
He added that the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board has provided Tk 35,000 for funeral expenses and Tk 50,000 in cash assistance to each victim’s family.
