Commodity Market Launch Nears Final Stage: CSE

B Mirror Report: The process of launching a commodity market in the stock exchange has now reached its final stage of preparation. Training, awareness building and technical skill development of all relevant stakeholders are essential to make the market operational, said Mezbah Uddin, General Manager and Head of the IT Department of Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) PLC.

He said the more spontaneous and coordinated participation from stakeholders increases, the faster the benefits of the market will be realized.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the fifth batch of a two-day certificate training programme on Commodity Derivatives, held at the CSE head office in Chattogram on Tuesday (March 3).

Representatives from CSE and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) PLC, along with other trade and capital market-related professionals, took part in the training. The information was disclosed in a press release signed by CSE PR Officer Tania Begum.

Among others present at the inaugural session were CSE General Manager and Head of Risk Management Division Murtuza Alam, General Manager and Head of Business and Market Development Division Monirul Haque, and other senior officials.

In his বক্তব্য, Monirul Haque said there are structural differences between the equity and commodity markets, particularly in settlement systems, margin management and trading frameworks. Highlighting the importance of analyzing global market conditions, he said the key attraction of the commodity market lies in leverage facilities and data-driven decision-making. With a rich data repository, quick and effective decisions can be made.

Murtuza Alam said it is not possible to gain a comprehensive understanding of the commodity market within just two days. However, he noted that the basic course would lay the foundation for future progress. He urged participants to regularly practice and build on what they learned to better prepare themselves.

During the main training sessions, presentations were delivered on various regulatory, business and technological aspects of the commodity exchange by Murtuza Alam, Commodity Exchange Project members Faisal Huda and Habibullah, and Assistant Manager Didarul Alam.

Additionally, Debjyoti De, Vice President and Head of Research at Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX), joined virtually and delivered a speech.
