BCCCI pushes for stronger Bangladesh–China trade cooperation

B Mirror Report: Recently, the Commerce Minister received a courtesy visit from a business delegation of the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI), led by its President Mohd. Khorshed Alam and Secretary General Jamilur Rahman, along with Senior Vice Presidents, a Vice President, and other notable members.

The meeting took place in light of the strategic economic priorities of the newly formed government, according to a press release.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral trade and industrial collaboration between Bangladesh and China. Among the major proposals was the establishment of “Made in Bangladesh” outlets in China to expand the country’s export footprint.

The BCCCI proposed setting up at least 20 branded retail outlets across China to showcase Bangladeshi apparel products, aiming to enhance brand visibility and boost garment exports.

The delegation also emphasized the importance of permitting liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports through the private sector, noting that such a move would enhance energy supply for industries and ensure uninterrupted production.

They further highlighted the need to attract increased Chinese investment in Bangladesh’s Economic Zones and to encourage the relocation of Chinese industries particularly labor-intensive manufacturing units to Bangladesh. Such initiatives, they said, would create jobs, strengthen export performance and accelerate industrialization.

On behalf of the chamber, the delegation formally placed several strategic recommendations before the minister. These included expanding Bangladesh’s exports to China, especially agricultural and value-added goods; establishing a modern polytechnic institute with Chinese assistance; and setting up a medical nursing training institute to enhance skilled healthcare manpower.

The BCCCI leaders also underscored the importance of encouraging Chinese banks to open branches in Bangladesh, which would help facilitate smoother trade transactions, lower settlement costs and deepen financial linkages between the two nations.

The delegation expressed sincere gratitude for the minister’s leadership and guidance, reaffirming BCCCI’s steadfast commitment to fostering a dynamic and mutually beneficial economic partnership between Bangladesh and China.
