NBR Seeks business proposals to modernize direct taxes for FY27

B Mirror Report: For the upcoming 2026–27 fiscal year budget, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sought proposals from business organizations to make income tax and other direct taxes more modern and participatory.

Business chambers and trade associations have been requested to submit their recommendations and proposals in a structured format to NBR’s Tax Policy Wing (in hard copy) by March 15. In addition to hard copies, proposals can also be sent directly via email to taxpolicynbr@gmail.com.

NBR Public Relations Officer Al Amin Sheikh shared this information on Tuesday (February 24).

According to NBR, the letters sent to various business associations, chambers, and institutions asked for opinions on four main areas: the 2023 Income Tax Act; the 2024 Tax at Source Regulations and other related rules; the 2003 Travel Tax Act; and the 1990 Gift Tax Act. Work on preparing the 2026–27 budget has already begun, and the proposals have been requested to make the direct tax system more modern and participatory.

The NBR letters also requested well-considered opinions, suggestions, and recommendations from businesses based on their practical experience regarding income tax and other direct tax laws and regulations.
