BNP Landslide in Sylhet Division; Khelafat Wins One Seat

Candidates contesting under the paddy sheaf symbol delivered a stunning performance in this election across the constituencies of Sylhet Division. Out of 19 parliamentary seats, the BNP won 18, while one seat went to a candidate from the Jamaat-led alliance. In most of these constituencies, opposition candidates failed to put up significant competition.

For the first time, the Jamaat-led alliance secured the Sylhet-5 seat. Khelafat Majlis leader Maulana Mufti Abul Hasan emerged victorious there. He defeated BNP alliance candidate Ubaidullah Faruk in a closely watched contest. Of the 19 seats in Sylhet Division, Jamaat fielded candidates in 10 seats, while the remaining 9 were left to other parties within the alliance.

Sylhet District:

Out of six seats in Sylhet district, BNP candidates won five. Khandaker Abdul Muktadir won in Sylhet-1, Tahsina Rushdir Luna in Sylhet-2, MA Malik in Sylhet-3, Ariful Haque Chowdhury in Sylhet-4, and Emran Ahmed Chowdhury in Sylhet-6. In Sylhet-5, Mufti Abul Hasan of Khelafat Majlis, a partner of the 11-party alliance, secured victory.

Sunamganj District:

BNP achieved a clean sweep in all five parliamentary seats in Sunamganj. Kamruzzaman Kamrul won in Sunamganj-1, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury in Sunamganj-2, Kaysar M Ahmed in Sunamganj-3, Nurul Islam Nurul in Sunamganj-4, and Kalim Uddin Milon in Sunamganj-5.

Moulvibazar District:

BNP also won all seats in Moulvibazar district. Nasir Uddin Ahmed Mithu won in Moulvibazar-1, Shaukatul Islam Shaku in Moulvibazar-2, M. Naser Rahman in Moulvibazar-3, and Haji Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury in Moulvibazar-4.

Habiganj District:

BNP secured victory in all four parliamentary seats in Habiganj district. Dr. Reza Kibria won in Habiganj-1, Dr. Sakhawat Hasan Jibon in Habiganj-2, G.K. Gaus in Habiganj-3, and SM Faisal in Habiganj-4.
