EWU’s 25th Convocation Calls Graduates to Lead in Times of Crisis

The 25th convocation of East West University (EWU) was held on 02 February 2026 (Monday) at Aftabnagar Playground in the capital. At the convocation, as the representative of His Excellency the President, the Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Mobasser Monem, Chairman of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), presented degrees to the students. 1857 students of undergraduate and graduate programs were awarded certificates at this convocation.

In addition, nine exceptionally meritorious students with a CGPA of 4.0 out of 4.0 were awarded gold medals. Dr. Mobasser Monem observed that knowledge and skills become meaningful when they are rooted in moral principles. Moreover, he encouraged students to love and take pride in their country. According to him, a country’s development leads to spiritual salvation. Referring to current global realities, Mr. Monem urged the youth to create a peaceful and livable world by reducing national and international unrest. Emphasizing the importance of taking proper care of our environment, he pointed out how our existence depends on it.

Therefore, everyone has a moral duty to protect the deteriorating natural world.  The convocation speaker at the event was Tapan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals PLC. He reminded the students that the nation requires more than just a workforce; it needs ethical professionals and innovative problem solvers. Attractive salaries, designations, or beautiful profiles on social media are not examples of success; success is what can impact society, the nation, and the world. He particularly mentions that success eventually appears after several attempts.  Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, EWU, and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, stated that EWU has always tried to prioritize merit and to work with transparency. He further mentioned that he is optimistic about the graduates of EWU who are expected to contribute to building a society without discrimination in the future, with the kind of skills, ethics, and education they have acquired from here. Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU, asked the students not to remain obsessed with the ‘comfort zone’ of the satisfaction of earning a degree, as such satisfaction leads to inertia.

Therefore, getting out of the ‘comfort zone’ is the only alternative to create a prosperous future, in that competition cannot be only with our colleagues but also with the most skilled person in the world. Dr. Rahman called on students to become sensible citizens with a good sense of morality and humanity. The convocation ceremony was attended by dignitaries from various institutions, members of the Board of Trustees of EWU, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, the Treasurer, Deans of various faculties, Chairpersons of various departments, faculty members, officers, graduates, and their guardians. The students expressed their joy at receiving their certificates on time at the end of their educational life.
