Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) felicitated Hams Garments Limited today for achieving the recognition of the world’s top green factory. The grand event was organized at the Nurul Quader Auditorium of BGMEA Complex in Uttara under the joint initiative of BGMEA and Hams Garments Limited.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan presented a special commemorative plaque to Hams Garments Limited’s Managing Director Engineer Shafiqur Rahman at the event.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan said in his speech that Hams Garments Limited has set a new world record by scoring 108 out of 110 in the USGBC Lead Platinum Certification. This is not just a numerical assessment, but the highest score among any green factory in the world. He further said that this achievement has taken the prestige and capability of the “Made in Bangladesh” brand to a new height for the whole world and has created a ‘global benchmark’ for the garment sector of Bangladesh.
Also present at the event were BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Director Faisal Samad, Director A.B.M. Shamsuddin, Director Faruk Hasan, Managing Director of Hams Garments Engineer Shafiqur Rahman, Consultant of USGBC Ananta Ahmed, Convenor of the Interim Committee of the Institution of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET) Engineer Ehsanul Karim Kaiser and directors and high-ranking officials of Hams Garments.
In his welcome address, BGMEA Director Faisal Samad congratulated Hams Garments and said that scoring 108 out of 110 was a huge challenge, which they successfully completed. At the same time, he laid special emphasis on making the availability of green technology funds easier for the factory to transform it to an eco-friendly one.
BGMEA Director Faruk Hasan mentioned in his speech that for the last few decades, Bangladesh has been breaking its own record by scoring the highest in LEED certification, which is brightening the image of the industry. However, he said that although green factories are given priority in the work order, its proper reflection in the price of the product is still not visible.
USGBC Consultant and 360 TSL Managing Director Anant Ahmed highlighted the technical aspects of this achievement at the event. He said that Bangladesh is not only continuing this progress on the path of sustainability, but is also creating new global benchmarks.
It is worth mentioning that currently there are 273 Lead Certified Green Factories in Bangladesh, out of which 115 are Platinum and 139 are Gold. It is worth noting that 69 of the world’s top 100 highest rated green factories are now located in Bangladesh.
Engineer Shafiqur Rahman, Managing Director of Hams Garments Limited, highlighted the success story of the factory in his speech. He expressed his gratitude and said that the way the current board of BGMEA is evaluating every achievement of the industry and presenting it to the world is truly commendable. He further said that the initiative of BGMEA to provide this reception will encourage the industry owners to take more bold steps towards sustainable industrialization.
