Khaleda Zia’s funeral held amid massive crowd

B Mirror Report:  The funeral prayer of Khaleda Zia, three-time former Prime Minister and Chairperson of the BNP, has been held.

On Wednesday (31 December), at around 3:03 pm, the funeral was held in the presence of hundreds of thousands of people at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building, also known as Manik Mia Avenue.

The funeral prayer was led by Maulana Abdul Malek, Khatib of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus attended the funeral of the former Prime Minister.

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, along with the chiefs of various forces and top leaders of all political parties, were also present.

From morning, a massive crowd of mourners gathered at Manik Mia Avenue to bid a final farewell to the uncompromising leader. Alongside leaders and activists of the BNP and its allied organizations from different parts of the country, people from various walks of life also rushed to attend. The pain of losing the national leader was evident on their faces. After the funeral, Khaleda Zia will be buried beside her husband, former President Ziaur Rahman.

Khaleda Zia passed away yesterday, Tuesday, at around 6:00 am while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. Following her death, the government has declared three days of state mourning. At the same time, a general holiday was announced for Wednesday. In addition, the BNP is observing a seven-day mourning program.
