Garment Factories Closed Tomorrow to Mourn Khaleda Zia

Wednesday, December 31, is a general vacation for all member clothing firms in remembrance of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) issued the order.

The information was announced in a press release signed by BGMEA’s Acting Secretary Major Md. Saiful Islam (Retd.) on Tuesday afternoon (December 30).

The release stated that the three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, passed away at 6:00 am today (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un). In this regard, the government has declared three days of state mourning and a one-day general holiday.

In line with the government’s decision, BGMEA has requested all member garment factories to observe a one-day general holiday tomorrow, Wednesday.

Begum Khaleda Zia was born on August 15, 1945. She was the first female Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the second female Prime Minister in the Muslim world after Benazir Bhutto.
