DSE Jumps on Expected Poll Schedule Announcement

The country’s capital market turned upbeat following indications that the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election will be announced on Wednesday (10 December) evening or the following day, Thursday. Election Commissioner Abdur Rahman Masud confirmed the development while speaking to reporters at the Election Commission office on Tuesday (9 December).

On the third trading day of the week, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed with a notable rise in key index, accompanied by a significant increase in trading turnover. Shares of 317 companies advanced during the session, reflecting heightened investor confidence.

According to DSE data, the benchmark index DSEX gained 56.61 points, reaching 4,902 points. The DS30 index rose 14.82 points to 1,907, while the DSES index added 11.69 points, settling at 1,039.

Turnover on the DSE surged to Tk 458.03 crore, up from Tk 364.64 crore recorded in the previous trading session.

A total of 389 companies saw their shares and units traded on Tuesday. Among them, 317 companies posted price gains, 35 recorded declines, and 37 remained unchanged.

Market analysts say investor sentiment strengthened as political uncertainty eased with the expected announcement of the election schedule, contributing to the day’s bullish rally.
