UK, Qatar Pledge $11.2m LPG Aid for Rohingyas

The United Kingdom and Qatar have jointly announced USD 11.2 million in assistance to strengthen humanitarian support and environmental protection for more than 647,000 Rohingyas living in Cox’s Bazar, as well as the local host communities.

The British High Commission in Dhaka shared this information in a statement on Sunday (7 December).

According to the statement, the joint support will provide liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to vulnerable Rohingya families living in the camps to improve their living conditions and reduce environmental degradation in and around the refugee settlements.

Quoting both countries, the statement added, “We are committed to building safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities together.”

The supply of LPG will reduce dependence on firewood, which has caused massive deforestation in surrounding areas in recent years.

Since the arrival of the Rohingyas from Myanmar in 2017, Cox’s Bazar has remained one of the world’s largest settlements of displaced people.
