The 20th anniversary of the Demra Press Club was commemorated at a nearby convention hall yesterday, arranged by the club. The senior journalist Nazrul Islam Chowdhury led the discussion session.
During the event, Mr. Ayub Bhuiyan, Secretary General of the Dhaka Press Club, called on journalists to overcome fear and emphasize the strength of the written word. He stated that the lack of journalists’ voices allows the government to turn fascist. He asserts that a journalist’s main objective is to wield the pen against injustice and advocate for justice.
Other participants in the discussion included Mr. Nabi Ullah Nabi, potential parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-5; DUJ President Shahidul Islam; General Secretary Khurshid Alam; and Demra Police Station Acting OC Mahmudur Rahman. Meanwhile, the invited chief guest, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Mr. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, expressed his gratitude to all present and wished the Demra Press Club continued success.
Mr. Nabi Ullah Nabi addressed the journalists, urging them to independently highlight all human and social issues in Demra, especially regarding drug-related problems. The event created a lively and joyful atmosphere with the participation of people from all walks of life in Demra.
Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, President of the Demra Press Club, said that the club has been on its journey for 20 years with everyone’s cooperation. He urged the attending journalists to continue raising their voices against injustice through their writing. The Acting OC of Demra Police Station assured journalists that he would always support them regarding any issues or concerns about their safety.
