BM Desk: Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has stated that expert teams from four countries are being brought in to investigate the fire incident at the Cargo Village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He said that the teams will come and examine whether there was any mismanagement at the site.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (25 October) around 11:45 AM, after inspecting the recently fire-damaged Cargo Village and e-gate area of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) International Airport, he said this.
He mentioned that experts from Australia, China, England, and Turkey have been invited for the investigation. They will determine the cause of the fire and identify who might be responsible.
The Home Affairs Advisor added that the Fire Service made every possible effort to control the fire and did not fail in their duty. They arrived at the site on time and worked to extinguish the flames. Four units of the Airport Authority reached the location within four minutes, while the Fire Brigade units arrived within 15 to 20 minutes. The fire spread quickly because the area stored a large amount of food items, not chemicals.
He also stated that discussions are ongoing for the rapid implementation of electronic gates at the airport. Additionally, he assured that the government will take steps to reduce the passport-related difficulties faced by remittance workers.
