The American technology powerhouse Starlink has officially commenced its satellite-enabled high-speed internet services in Bangladesh, setting up an essential ground station at Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park.
The organization has rented one acre of land for a period of 40 years at the park, paying an annual fee of $2 per square meter along with a service charge. The Bangladeshi company Bondstine Technology Limited (BTL) is managing the development and operation of Starlink’s infrastructure.
BTL CEO Meer Shahrukh Islam said the Rajshahi ground station—equipped with 10 antennas, with 30 more on the way—will serve as a central hub for nationwide connectivity. Starlink has also set up ground stations at Kaliakoir and Jessore Hi-Tech Parks.
In addition to internet services, Starlink plans to establish a robotics and IoT research centre at the park. The 31-acre Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park, located near the Padma River, is emerging as a regional tech hub. Officials expect it to generate around 3,000 jobs in the next six months.
Silicon Tower, the park’s 12-storey centrepiece, has already leased most of its 84,661 square feet to local and international companies, including PRAN-RFL Group and Chaldal. BRAC IT is also planning to relocate 650 IT professionals to the site.
The park, developed at a cost of Tk 335 crore and officially handed over on June 30, 2024, now hosts 16 companies, with 11 already operational. Industry leaders are optimistic about Rajshahi’s growing role in Bangladesh’s digital economy.
