“No level playing field in business for a long time”: Financial advisor

“In the fields of politics, business, banking, and the media, a sort of monopoly has grown, which has exacerbated corruption and inequality. Some politicians went on to become Members of Parliament, some became bank owners, and yet others became media owners. Consequently, the entire system was corrupt and rife with nepotism. During a discussion held by Bangladesh Bank on the occasion of the “July Mass Uprising Day” on Monday, August 4, financial advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Business and trade had fallen into the hands of a monopolistic clique.”

He added, “Our economy and society have suffered greatly as a result of discrimination, corruption, and systemic ruin. The middle class, young people, and regular business owners were not given the proper development opportunities.
“We are now working to remove those hurdles,” he stated, addressing the current administration and economic decision-makers. We are working to get rid of the stones that have accumulated over the past fifteen years. Reforms are difficult, but we must begin at the beginning.

“A number of institutions, including Bangladesh Bank, are taking significant moves in reforms,” he added with excitement. Our objective is to create a framework that will act as a manual for upcoming administrations.

Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, the governor of Bangladesh Bank, chaired the discussion meeting. Special guests were Deputy Governor Md. Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Secretary of the Financial Institutions Department Nazma Mobarek. Additionally, prominent Bangladesh Bank officials attended the occasion.
