Nazrul Rajbari Correspondent: Lawyers from the Rajbari District Bar Association organized a human chain event to call for the revocation of the gazette concerning the legal aid law.
The event took place in front of the main building of the Rajbari District Bar Association on Wednesday afternoon. Adv. Habibur Rahman Bachchu, the President of the Rajbari District Bar Association and District Jatiya Party, presided over the gathering. The speeches were moderated by Adv. Abdur Razzak, the General Secretary of the District Bar Association and Public Prosecutor (PP). Other notable speakers included former President of the Rajbari District Bar Association Adv. Swapan Kumar Som, District BNP convener Adv. Liakat Ali Babu, District BNP member secretary Adv. Md. Kamrul Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami MP candidate for Rajbari-1 constituency and District Jamaat Ameer Adv. Md. Nurul Islam, Adv. Shafiqul Islam, among others.
The speakers expressed that while one dictatorship has left the country, another is now acting with authoritarianism. They warned that if court activities commence at the upazila level, it will lead to greater suffering for the common people. They insisted that the gazette issued on July 1 regarding the legal aid law must be revoked. Should this not happen, they threatened to implement strict measures, including mobilizing lawyers to challenge the Yunus government. They emphasized that he was not authorized to amend the law. They called for a well-ordered governance and a swift transfer of power through elections, asserting that it is the elected representatives who should amend the law. Consequently, they urged for the immediate cancellation of the gazette.
