Imran Jhenaidah Correspondent: A freedom fighter named Golam Barik Mondal (76) was tragically killed, and his wife Lima Begum sustained injuries after being struck by a truck in the Asannagar area of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Monday (June 30) along the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway in Asannagar. The deceased, Barik Mondal, was the son of the late Hamed Ali Mondal from Krishnapur village in the Umedpur union of the upazila.

According to local residents, Golam Barik Mondal was riding home on a motorcycle with his wife Lima Begum after purchasing medicines from Bhatai Bazar. As they approached the Asannagar area of the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway, a truck coming from behind collided with their motorcycle. This caused Lima Begum to fall onto the roadside. In the ensuing chaos, the truck dragged the motorcycle for 200 yards, ultimately crushing Barik Mondal, who died instantly at the scene.

Following the incident, fire service personnel arrived and recovered the body, which was then sent to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The injured Lima Begum is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Mrityunjoy Biswas, the OC of Jhenaidah Arappur Highway Police Station, stated, “The body has been retrieved and sent to the morgue for an autopsy. Once the autopsy is completed, the body will be returned to the deceased’s family.” The highway police have seized the truck involved in the incident, but the driver has fled the scene.
