B Mirror Desk : For the second day in a row, the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers and Employees United Council protested the proposed Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, within the Secretariat this morning, May 25.The group has demanded that the ordinance be repealed, calling it a “repressive and black statute,” according to the media.
This morning, several workers were seen leaving their workplaces to take part in the protest march. While chanting slogans, the protesters made their way past the Secretariat.
At an Advisory Council meeting last Thursday, the draft ordinance—which aims to alter the Public Service Act of 2018—was given preliminary approval.
According to the media source, protesting employees say the draft reinstates some “repressive elements” from a special regulation that was put in place more than 40 years ago. They voice worries that these clauses would make it easier to discipline public employees or even fire them arbitrarily.
Furthermore, they contend that the proposed ordinance violates the constitution and are calling for a reexamination of it.
