Meanwhile, after the meeting, Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin told reporters that Bangladesh will benefit from the US granting duty-free benefits to 100 more products. A positive decision may come in the wake of the letter sent by the Commerce Ministry to reduce the tariffs imposed by the US.

The trade advisor said that the Ministry of Commerce has sent a letter to the US Trade Representative in Dhaka, Jameson Greer, with a view to providing access to Bangladeshi products in the US market and creating a mutual tariff balance. This may lead to a positive decision on reducing the tariffs imposed by the US.

He said that work is underway to reduce the trade deficit with the US. Regarding the letter sent mentioning various issues to increase trade, he said that no reply has been received yet.
