China visit a ‘success’ for govt: Fakhrul

B Mirror Desk : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commended the interim government’s recent trip to China, describing it as a “significant achievement” and emphasizing Beijing’s pledge to enhance investment in Bangladesh.

He remarked, “China’s transition from exclusive relations with a single party to engaging with all political factions is a positive development,” during a press interaction at his home in Kalibari, Thakurgaon.

“China stands as a prosperous nation and the world’s second-largest trading partner. They have assured us of continued investment in Bangladesh’s business landscape in the near future, which is certainly encouraging for us,” he added.

Fakhrul pointed out that reforms and elections are separate processes, stating, “Reforms will take their own path, while elections will unfold accordingly.”

He also reflected on the interim government’s formation, noting that it arose with the support of the BNP after a widespread uprising led by students and the public. Furthermore, he discussed the government’s reform efforts, including the creation of a reform commission aimed at suggesting modifications to the state system.

We have conducted a comprehensive review, observation, and testing of the commission’s proposals. The BNP has shared its views, which will be further discussed with other political parties, he stated. The BNP leader announced the intention to finalize a “Charter of Reform” ahead of the upcoming election, with political parties expected to endorse the document. He clarified that elected officials would be tasked with executing the agreed reforms.

When questioned about the likelihood of elections this year, Fakhrul expressed hope, referencing the chief adviser’s plan to conduct elections by December. Fakhrul emphasized BNP’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with the public, showcasing the party’s initiative to promote its 31-point agenda across the country. He confirmed that BNP’s political activities would persist after Eid, as they had during Ramadan.
