Jhenaidah Correspondent :A human chain program was held in Jhenaidah to protest the rape of women and children across the country, including 8-year-old Asia in Magura, and to demand punishment for the perpetrators.
An organization called Welfare Efforts organized the program at the city’s Payra Chattar on Monday morning. The organization’s leaders, human rights activists and people from various walks of life participated in the program with banner festoons. Human Rights Defender Forum President Aminur Rahman Tuku, General Secretary Sharifa Khatun, Human Rights Implementation Organization Sadar Upazila Branch President Ahmed Hossain, General Secretary Bablu Kumar Kundu, Torun Dal member Sharmin Akhter Emu, Golden Welfare Executive Director Chandan Basu Muktu and others spoke in the hour-long program.
At that time, the speakers said that women and children are constantly being raped and tortured in different parts of the country. The lack of fair trial of these barbaric incidents is emboldening the criminals. They demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits through the speedy trial law. Along with this, the speakers emphasized on increasing social awareness, ensuring the safety of women and proper implementation of the law.
