The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has proposed an increase in the tax-free income limit to Tk 5 lakh, up from the existing Tk 3.5 lakh. This recommendation was presented during a pre-budget meeting with Abdur Rahman Khan, the chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), held at the NBR office in Agargaon, Dhaka.
Furthermore, the DCCI suggested that the threshold for the second tax bracket be raised from Tk 1 lakh to Tk 3 lakh, while keeping the current tax rate of 5 percent for that range. The organization also advocated for a reduction in the highest income tax rate from 30 percent to 25 percent for the top income bracket. Previously, the Centre for Policy Dialogue had recommended increasing the tax-free income limit to Tk 4 lakh.
