Issues and opportunities facing the nation’s insurance industry

BM Desk : Would you like to study the nation’s insurance industry’s issues and future? Then, you have that chance thanks to the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA). Nonetheless, the organization has three days left to receive proposals. March 13 is the cutoff.

A press release issued by IDRA states that nine topics are available for research proposals. These include policy lapses, commission issues in the non-life insurance business, reinsurance challenges, insurance penetration in Bangladesh, the efficacy of the current regulatory framework in the insurance industry in Bangladesh, insurance claims settlement, insurance literacy in Bangladesh, and issues with good governance in the insurance sector.

Interested candidates must submit a preliminary research proposal in English of a maximum of 1,500 words and two pages. At the same time, the resume of the lead researcher must be submitted. Research proposals can be submitted individually or in groups.

The eligibility criteria for application include relevant experts or practitioners with PhD from a reputed university, practitioners with five years of experience in the insurance sector, research experience in business or economics with one publication in a QI journal, etc. The eligibility criteria can be relaxed for internal researchers.

For detailed information, it is requested to follow the IDRA Research Guidelines 2025 on the website www.idra.org.bd. In addition, if necessary, it is requested to contact Md. Ikhtiar Hasan Khan, Assistant Director of Research Branch of IDRA.

Three types of research are mentioned in the guidelines: A, B, and C. Research in category A will take two to two and a half years and cost more than 10 lakh taka. In category B, a year’s worth of research will cost roughly 10 lakh taka. Additionally, research in category C will need to be completed in three to six months, and it will cost about four lakh taka.
