Even after Income Tax Day, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has made the decision to keep offering the online income tax return filing service all year long.
In a press release distributed to the media on Sunday, February 16, the NBR made this announcement.
According to the notification, taxpayers have responded very favorably to the National Board of Revenue’s online income tax return filing system. The online return filing procedure has been progressively made more taxpayer-friendly and simplified in response to the requests and feedback of esteemed taxpayers. Consequently, over 1.8 million taxpayers have finished registering for e-returns, and over 1.4 million taxpayers have already filed their returns online this year.
Even after Income Tax Day, the National Board of Revenue has made the decision to keep the online income tax return filing service available all year long. According to Section 76 of the Income Tax Act of 2023, the returnee will not receive any tax exemptions or investment tax relief if the return is filed after Income Tax Day.
Furthermore, in accordance with Section 174 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, any tax that is not paid on Tax Day will be subject to additional tax at the rate of 2% per month (up to 24 months).
The National Board of Revenue would like to express gratitude to the distinguished taxpayers who submitted their income tax returns online and urge them to do so in order to receive income tax certificate.
