The market capitalization increased by Tk 4 thousand 238 crore

The price index of the nation’s two stock markets dropped last week (January 26–30). The number of transactions also dropped at the same time. Nonetheless, investors’ investments or portfolios grew by Tk 3,647 crore. The transactions dropped by 18 percent during that week.

As is well known, the DSE’s market capitalization was Tk 6,60,587 crore at the start of last week. Additionally, the market capitalization was Tk 6,64,825 crore at the end of trading on the final working day of the week. In other words, during the week, investors’ portfolios grew by Tk 4,238 crore, or 0.64 percent.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw Tk 1,694.93 crore in trading during the previous week. The transaction value for the previous week was Tk 2,633.37 crore. In other words, during the week, the DSE’s transaction value dropped by Tk 3,684.44 crore, or 18%.

The DSEX, the primary index of the DSE, dropped 54 points, or 1%, to 5,113 points during the week. The Shariah Index dropped 28 points, or 2 percent, to 1,134 points among other index.

A total of 396 shares and units of companies were traded on the DSE in the past week. Among the companies, the prices increased by 98 or 24.74 percent, decreased by 272 or 68.68 percent and remained unchanged by 26 or 6.56 percent.

In the other stock market, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), a total of 719.9 million taka was traded in the past week. The overall index of the CSE, CASPI, fell by 155 points or 1 percent to 14,449 points during the week.

Over the course of the week, 304 companies’ shares and units were traded on the CSE. Of the companies, 99 saw a price increase, 186 saw a price decrease, and 19 saw no change in price.
