The target level of producing 4,200 metric tons of sugar by threshing 60,000 metric tons of sugarcane in the current fiscal year has been set.The 67th sugarcane threshing season has begun at the Dewanganj Zeal Bangla Sugar Mill in Jamalpur.

On Friday afternoon, Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Chairman Lipika Bhadra inaugurated the threshing season by throwing sugarcane into the mill’s boat.

On this occasion, Zeal Bangla Sugar Mill Managing Director Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, veteran sugarcane farmer Dalilur Rahman, and Upazila Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Rashedul Islam and local leaders of BNP were present.

On this occasion, a discussion meeting and prayer mahfil were organized at the mill’s Kane Career premises. Mill Managing Director Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain said that the target level of producing 4,200 metric tons of sugar by threshing 60,000 metric tons of sugarcane in the 2024-25 fiscal year has been set.

Claiming that interest in sugarcane cultivation is increasing day by day among farmers, he said, “Hopefully, the desired target will be achieved in the current threshing season.”

Lipika Bhadra said, “Various inputs and subsidies for farmers have been increased than before to increase sugarcane cultivation. Interest in sugarcane cultivation will increase day by day. Steps are being taken to reopen closed mills.”
