A magnitude 6 earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has resulted in the deaths of over 20 individuals. The number of fatalities is anticipated to increase.
Local authorities reported that more than 115 individuals injured in the earthquake across Nangarhar and Kunar provinces have been transported to medical facilities.
As per the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 11:47 PM local time on Sunday (August 31). Its epicenter was located 8 kilometers below the surface. Since then, at least three additional tremors have been recorded, ranging from 4.5 to 5.2 in magnitude.
The tremors were experienced for several seconds in Kabul, the Afghan capital, situated approximately 200 kilometers from the epicenter. They were also felt in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, which is about 400 kilometers away.
