Noakhali Correspondent: Police have seized 350 bags of urea fertilizer from a trawler in Subarnachar Upazila of Noakhali while they were being illegally smuggled to Myanmar. The seizure took place around 11:30 p.m. on Friday at Chor Torab Ali Jila Ghat in Mohammadpur Union of the upazila.
Char Jabbar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia confirmed the incident. However, no arrests have been made so far.
According to police and local sources, police conducted a raid at the ghat after receiving a tip-off about a large quantity of urea being smuggled by trawler. Upon arrival, they found the trawler loaded with fertilizer but no owners or crew were present. Locals identified the trawler owner as Jamal Majhi and another person named Saiful as being involved, though police have not yet verified these claims.
It is suspected that more than 350 bags of urea fertilizer were loaded onto the trawler for smuggling to Myanmar with the help of some local individuals. The smugglers reportedly fled after learning of the police raid. As of noon on Saturday, police were still stationed at the site but had not identified the fertilizer’s owner, and no one has come forward to claim it.
OC Shahin Mia said that approximately 350 bags of fertilizer were seized and remain on the trawler. “No one has claimed ownership yet,” he added. “According to locals, the fertilizer was being smuggled to Myanmar, but we have not yet found any concrete evidence to confirm this.”
