B Mirror Report: more than 30 banks in Bangladesh are temporarily suspending several technology-based banking services due to a system upgrade and migration of the q-cash network.
the disruption may affect atms, cards, fund transfers, e-commerce transactions and bangla qr services, although the duration and scope vary among banks.
banks including nrb commercial bank, Bangladesh krishi bank, trust bank, sbac bank, bank asia and national bank have notified customers about the temporary suspension. one bank said q-cash-linked atms, cash recycling machines, credit and prepaid card transactions, and pos services would remain unavailable from october 4 at 9pm until october 10 at noon, while some alternative services would continue.
nrb commercial bank said its atms and crms, debit and credit card transactions, fund transfers and bangla qr services would be temporarily suspended. however, customers will still be able to transfer funds to bKash, nagad and upay through the bank’s nrb planet app.
according to q-cash, 37 banks currently operate under its network. the simultaneous disruption could cause inconvenience, particularly for customers needing cash withdrawals, card payments or fund transfers for urgent transactions.
Bangladesh bank spokesperson and executive director arif hossain khan said the migration was being carried out to ensure safer and more modern banking services. he said some services of banks under the q-cash network would remain temporarily unavailable during the process.
he added that Bangladesh bank had not been informed in advance about the matter, but banks had been advised to notify customers beforehand so they could make alternative arrangements and reduce inconvenience.
