Brahmanbaria Correspondent:
Ahead of Durga Puja, around 1,200 kilograms of Hilsa fish have been exported to India through the Akhaura Land Port in Brahmanbaria. On Thursday (September 18) at around 2:45 PM, the first shipment — two pickup vans loaded with Hilsa — entered the Agartala Land Port in India.
The fish were exported by Mohatab & Sons, an exporting company based in Benapole, Jashore, at a rate of $12.50 USD per kilogram. The importer is M/s Paritosh Biswas from Agartala, Tripura, India. Customs clearing was handled by M/s Sakiat Construction, a C&F agent at the Akhaura port.
Faruk Mia, owner of Sakiat Construction, said that permission has been granted to export 90 tons of Hilsa through three companies via Akhaura Land Port. In the first shipment, 1,192 kg were exported. Shipments will continue until the day before Durga Puja begins. However, due to a supply shortage in the local market, the full approved quantity may not be exported.
It is worth noting that the Bangladeshi government allows limited Hilsa exports through land ports every year ahead of Durga Puja.
