Niaz Md. Khan Bitu, Brahmanbaria: Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) has started workover operations at Well No. 5 of the Habiganj Gas Field. The workover was inaugurated on Friday (October 24) by Petrobangla Director (Administration) S. M. Mahbub Alam, according to a press release issued by BGFCL on Monday (October 27).
The project is being implemented under the initiative titled “Workover of Seven Wells in Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Meghna Gas Fields.”
The inauguration ceremony at the Habiganj Gas Field was attended by BGFCL Managing Director Engineer Md. Faruque Hossain, along with Petrobangla’s General Manager (RDM) and senior officials from BGFCL and BAPEX.
According to the BGFCL statement, the workover operations are expected to be completed by December. Once successfully finished, the well will be able to supply an additional 10–15 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid, beyond its current production.
It is noteworthy that seven producing wells at the Habiganj Gas Field currently contribute around 105 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid. Well No. 5 was drilled in 1988 to a depth of 3,521 meters, and gas production from the well began in February 1992.
