Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, received the Super-Samakal Media Award 2023. Country’s leading electronics and electrical product manufacturer and exporter was rewarded for ensuring fire safety and earthquake preparedness and maintaining compliance at its workplace.
Walton and two other organizations, and three journalists were given awards in a ceremony held at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday
The State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, handed over the crests and cheques to the winners as the chief guest of the ceremony.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC’s Additional MD, S.M. Shoyeb Hossain Nobel and Senior ED Mohammad Shahjada Salim received the award from the state minister on behalf of their company.
Here noted that the Strengthening Urban Public-Private Programming for Earthquake Resilience (SUPER) project is a consortium project. Actionaid Bangladesh, the Dhaka Chamber (DCCI), United Purpose, and World Vision Bangladesh are implementing the project with financial support from the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.
Samakal and Super Consortium jointly presented the award for the second time to raise awareness and encourage preparedness for earthquake and fire-related disasters. This year, the Super-Samakal Media Awards have been given to three organizations and three journalists in two categories; institutions and media. Walton was awarded in institution category.
The judges in this year’s winning selection panel were Samakal’s Advisory Editor Abu Sayeed Khan, pro-vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof. Mahbuba Nasreen, and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology’s (BUET) Civil Engineering Department’s Professor Dr. Mehedi Ahmed Ansary.
