Sustainability is our commitment, not product, says Rakib

Bangladesh’s apparel industry, nation’s largest source of foreign exchange income, compete in global market hence sustainability practices in industry here should be ensures strictly as, it has critical roles in sustaining business also.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) came up with such view at a ceremony, held in the capital on Friday evening, on releasing Sustainability Report 2023 of Team Group.
The company, which manufactures outerwear and other apparels for global brands like G Star, Columbia Sport and Calvin Klein, released its first episode of such report at a ceremony, attended by representatives from retailers and development partners like Inditex, G-star, ILO, GIZ, WaterAid and Unicef.
Faruque praised continuous commitment of the Team Group to sustainable practices in manufacturing, which is also pointed out as sector’s serious responsibility now to protect the environment and safeguard living creatures.
Team Group’s Managing Director, Abdullah Hil Rakib, emphasized that industry’s success lies in sustainability rather than fake advertising.
“Sustainability is our commitment, not a product to sell,” said Rakib, who stressed on significance of workers’ rights and promoting the welfare of people with key elements of sustainable practices.
Selim Reza Hasan, Country Manager of Solidaridad, said Bangladesh, now the 41st largest economy. should pursue prosperity without compromising social and environment causes.
Mujibul Hasan, Country Director of Swisscontact, said private sector here to take initiatives to alleviate poverty within the country.
Abdullah Hill Nakib, Deputy Managing Director of Team Group, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their participation, setting a positive tone at the event.
Monwar Hossain, Head of Sustainability, outlined Team Group’s motivation for sustainability and highlighted key features of the Sustainability Report. Notably, the company aims to achieve 7 megawatts of energy production through its Solar Master Plan by 2030.
As part of Team Group CSR initiatives, the company supports the community, invests in education and skill development, and provides special benefits for women employees during pregnancy.
