The government has undertaken plans to diversify the products along with increasing investment in the economic zone. 100 economic zones are being developed as part of planned industrialization across the country. But to make this mega project successful at the earliest, it is considered that the sincerity of all the concerned ministries and organizations is necessary.
While visiting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar on Wednesday, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, Tofazzal Hossain Mia, expressed satisfaction with the overall development activities.
“Although there are many challenges in providing services to investors in the economic zones, BEZA is successfully coping with them and ensuring water, gas, and electricity connections through coordination with all government agencies,” said Tofazzal Hossain Mia.
It is known that the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority is establishing “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar” on about 33 thousand acres in Mirsarai, Sitakund, and Sonagazi upazilas of Chittagong and Feni districts. So far, domestic and foreign investment proposals of around $19 billion have been approved in this industrial city. Following this, five companies have already started production.
Another 21 industrial establishments have started setting up industries that will start production in phases in November 2023. So far, 1.4 billion USD has been invested, and 5870 people have been employed so far. In the future, employment opportunities for about 8 lakh people will be created in this industrial city.

BEJA’s Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Haroon said, “One of the largest economic zones and industrial cities in South Asia is being built in Mirsarai. As a result, an unprecedented revolution of industrialization will be achieved in this country and the goals of sustainable development will be met along with increasing the standard of living of the people.
He mentioned that various industrial establishments of different sectors are choosing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar to set up their industries, which has set a unique example in the path of industrialization of the country.”
