The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy conducts a variety of training sessions throughout the year. In this context, a 4-day ‘Stage and Costume Planning Workshop’ commenced today, organized by the Academy’s Department of Drama and Film in partnership with the Japan Foundation. The opening ceremony took place in the seminar room of the National Theatre today, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10 am.
The workshop was officially opened by Faiz Zahir, the Director of the Department of Drama and Film at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The inaugural event featured speeches from First Secretary Komine Ken, Head of Public Relations and Culture at the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, Southwest Asia Specialist Masako Sazanami, renowned Japanese set and costume designer, and Purnalaksh Chakma, Light Designer from the Department of Drama and Film. Additionally, Shahidul Mamun, Director of the Oriental Theatre School of Acting, also spoke at the event. The inaugural session was moderated by Imam Abdullah Hakim, Assistant Director (Program Production, Drama) of the Department of Drama and Film.
Following the inaugural session, the workshop on set design planning commenced. The first workshop concluded at 2 pm, and the costume planning workshop began at 3 pm. The set design planning workshop will run daily from 10 am to 2 pm until August 30, 2025, while the costume planning workshop will take place from 3 pm to 8 pm in the seminar room of the theater. A total of 25 trainees are participating in this 4-day workshop.
It is important to note that another 4-day ‘Stage and Costume Planning Workshop’ is scheduled to begin at the District Shilpakala Academy in Chittagong on September 1, 2025, organized by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, under the management of the Department of Drama and Film in collaboration with the Japan Foundation. This workshop will continue until September 4, 2025.
