Saudi Arabia eyes stronger port investment ties with Bangladesh

B Mirror Report: Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in enhancing strategic cooperation with Bangladesh in seaport development, investment expansion, and the industrial sector.

The interest was conveyed by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah, during a meeting with Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the ministry office in Dhaka.

During the courtesy call, both sides discussed a range of bilateral issues, focusing on the development of seaports to strengthen maritime infrastructure, modernization of the shipping sector, expansion of bilateral trade, and broader industrial cooperation. They also highlighted opportunities to increase mutual investment.

Speaking at the meeting, Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir emphasized the significant potential for expanding economic collaboration through port development, modernization of the shipping industry, and increased investment flows. He noted that these sectors are key to deepening economic ties between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.

The minister said Bangladesh has created a favorable environment for foreign investors through its current policies and is giving top priority to the development of port infrastructure.

Highlighting the importance of large-scale projects, he identified the Matarbari project as a strategic priority, noting that international partnership remains crucial for achieving Bangladesh’s maritime and economic ambitions.

“The government is prioritizing port infrastructure development as a key driver of national economic growth,” he added.

Ambassador Dr. Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah praised the ongoing development initiatives undertaken by the Bangladesh government and expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in port infrastructure and the logistics sector.

Both the minister and the ambassador expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral ties, noting that the existing bond of friendship continues to strengthen. They also expressed hope that relations will further deepen through enhanced cooperation in the years ahead.

Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Industries and representatives from the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka, were present at the meeting.
