Jahirul Islam Patuakhali Correspondent : The Patuakhali Welfare Foundation has demanded immediate action to resolve the ongoing crisis at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital and other long-standing civic problems in the district, warning of a siege at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) office in Mohakhali on November 18 if effective measures are not taken by November 15. At a press conference held on Sunday (October 27) at Mallika Restaurant’s auditorium in Patuakhali, the foundation’s chairman Abdullah An Nahiyan alleged that the hospital is paralyzed by severe manpower shortages, corruption, and mismanagement under the influence of an “invisible syndicate.”
The speakers also voiced concern over the city’s collapsing drainage and water supply systems, urging immediate re-excavation of occupied and polluted canals, modernization of drainage infrastructure, and restoration of clean water supply through pipeline repairs.
They further called for the construction of a mosque in Jhautola, where thousands of visitors have no prayer facility, and presented additional demands such as renovation of the bus stand entry road, expansion of the Chourasta–Pyarakunja road into four lanes, repair of sluice gates and culverts in the BSCIC industrial area, administrative support for a Matua temple, and visible progress on the Bhanga–Kuakata six-lane highway project.
Nahiyan urged the government to address these issues on humanitarian and administrative grounds by November 30, warning of larger protests otherwise, and appealed to journalists to amplify the citizens’ voices for a modern, clean, and humane Patuakhali.
