National conference on foreign languages and cultures starts at DU

A two-day-long national conference on ‘Foreign Languages and Culture’ initiated by the Dhaka University Institute of Modern Languages started on Friday at the Language Institute Auditorium. DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor ASM Maksud Kamal inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.

Professor ABM Rezaul Karim Fakir, Director of the Modern Language Institute, presented the keynote address at the event, and Professor Hakeem Arif, Director General of the International Mother Language Institute, presented the keynote address. Shayla Sultana, Professor, Department of English Language, Institute of Modern Languages, gave the welcome address.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor ASM Maqsood Kamal wished for the success of this conference and said that through such conferences, new fields of education and research knowledge exchange are opened up among teachers, researchers, and students.

Highlighting the importance of learning different languages in order to maintain friendly diplomatic relations for education, research, art, culture, and business-trade exchange with different countries of the world, he said, “In this case, mother tongue education should be given priority to learning other languages.”

He urged the students to acquire skills in learning foreign languages to keep pace with the era of globalization.

More than 60 papers will be presented in this two-day conference.
