Kamran Tanvirur Rahman has been elected as the President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for the year 2024 while Habibullah N. Karim and Simeen Rahman have been elected Senior Vice-President and Vice-President respectively .
The 119th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MCCI was informed on Thursday that the new Board of Directors had elected their new leaders in their first meeting recently.
The new members at the MCCI Board of Directors elected are Syed Tarek Md. Ali, Managing Director of Modern Industries (BD), Tanvir Ahmed, Shelltech (Pvt.) Limited, Nasser Ejaz Vijay, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank, Tapan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals, Uzma Chowdhury, Director of Agricultural Marketing Company Limited, Dr Arif Daula, Managing Director of Advanced Chemical Industries, Saiful Islam, Managing Director of Picard Bangladesh, Ardashir Kabir, Managing Partner of Satgaon Tea Estate, Anis A Khan, Director of W&W Grains Corporation, Adib Hossain Khan, Senior Partner of Rahman Rahman Haque, Golam Mainuddin, Chairman of British American Tobacco Bangladesh and M. J. Hasan Mahmood, Partner of Abedin & Co.
The new president of MCCI, Kamran Tanvirur Rahman is the current Senior Vice-President of MCCI. A jute entrepreneur and tea planter, Kamran is chairman and managing director of Pubali Jute Mills and Kapna Tea Company and incumbent chairman of the Bangladesh Tea Association.
Senior Vice-President Habibullah N. Karim is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Technohaven Company. He is the former president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and the former vice-president of Bangladesh Employers Federation.
Vice-President Simeen Rahman is the CEO of the Transcom Group and daughter of late Lutifur Rahman, a legendary entrepreneur and the former president of MCCI. Under Simeen’s leadership, Eskayef Pharmaceuticals, a drug manufacturing company, has achieved good innovations and business success in domestic and global markets. Simeen is involved in the ownership and management of PepsiCo’s franchisees Transcom Beverages and Transcom Consumer Products and a big distribution company Transcom Distribution.
She is also involved in ownership and management of Reliance Insurance, National Housing Finance, IDLC Finance, Pubali Bank and country’s leading newspapers; daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
A member of the Executive Board of International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICC-Bangladesh). Simeen is the chairperson of the Faraj Hussain Foundation, established in the name of his son, who was killed in the Holey Artisan Attack.
