Professor ASM Maksud Kamal officially took charge as the 29th Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University on Saturday. The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. ASM Maksud Kamal, took over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akhtaruzzaman.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed, leaders of the DU Teachers’ Association, the Registrar, Deans of various faculties, Principles of various halls, Chairman of various departments, Directors of institutes, teachers, heads of offices, officers, students, and employees were present and extended their greetings to Maksud Kamal.
ASM Maksud Kamal paid deep respect to the immortal memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the martyrs of his family and all those who sacrificed their lives in the great liberation war and expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the President and Chancellor of Dhaka University, Md. Sahabuddin, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for being appointed.
Mr. Maksud Kamal said that Dhaka University is a symbol of hope and aspiration for the country and nation. Behind all the achievements of this country is the unique contribution of this university. Expressing his confidence to take Dhaka University to a unique height on the world map, the Vice-Chancellor said that through quality education, fundamental research, and creative and innovative work, this university will work for the welfare of students, country, and nation.
The new Vice-Chancellor appealed to all the concerned parties to cooperate with each other to uphold the tradition, image, reputation, and quality of the university by maintaining a fair environment for education.
Prof. ASM Maksud Kamal has been serving as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) since June 2020. He is a professor in the Disaster Science and Climate Resilience Department of Dhaka University. Prior to this, he was working as a professor in the Department of Geology.
