Tabarak Hossain Azad, Lakshmipur: Jamaat-e-Islami has held a press conference demanding the establishment of a railway line in Lakshmipur. The event was organized at the Lakshmipur Press Club under the banner of the district Jamaat on Sunday (October 19) afternoon.
At the press conference, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jamaat Secretary Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Karim said, “If the railway line is established, the regional economy will gain momentum. Transportation of agricultural products in the district will be easy. New horizons will be opened in the industry, education and health sectors. There is supposed to be an economic zone here. For this reason, I strongly demand the government to establish a railway line to build a prosperous economic Lakshmipur.”
District Jamaat Ameer SUM Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan said in a written statement that in 1973, a field survey was first conducted to establish a railway line from Chaumuhani to Lakshmipur. Then, several possible places for the railway station were identified and their numbers were determined. Later, on August 7, 2014, a demand letter was submitted to the ministry on behalf of the people of Lakshmipur for the establishment of a railway line. Then, the then Railway Minister instructed the Chairman of Railway Chittagong Eastern Zone to take necessary steps. But even today, the people of this region are deprived of the facilities of railway communication.
District Jamaat Secretary AR Hafiz Ullah, Assistant Secretary Nasir Uddin Mahmud, District Committee President of the Workers’ Welfare Federation Momin Ullah Patwari, Laxmipur City Jamaat Amir Abul Farah Nishan and Chandraganj Thana Jamaat Secretary Rezaul Islam Khan Suman were present at the time.
The Majuchaudhurirhat launch and ferry ghat in Lakshmipur is an easy means of communication with about 25 districts of the country, including Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Narsingdi, Bhola, Barisal, Khulna regions, via the Meghna River. On March 14, 2017, the then Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the construction of a modern seaport at Majuchaudhurir Hat Ghat. Locals are optimistic that Lakshmipur will prosper economically if the seaport-railway line is established here.
