Inflation rose to 13.80 percent last month

Inflation rose by about 3 percent in a month to 13.80 percent in November. The pressure of inflation, which determines the rise in commodity prices, has fallen on the people of the country.

On Thursday (December 5), the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released the updated Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for November this year on inflation.

According to the data published by the BBS, the food inflation rate increased due to the increase in the prices of rice, pulses, oil, salt, fish, meat, vegetables, spices and tobacco products.

According to the data of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the general or average inflation rate also increased in November. This rate increased to 11.38 percent from 10.87 percent last month. The prices of house rent, furniture, household goods, medical services, transportation and educational materials increased in November. In October, the inflation rate in this sector was 9.34 percent, but in November it increased to 9.39 percent.

Students from various universities in the country protested throughout July demanding the abolition of the quota system in government jobs. This led to a kind of stalemate in the country. As a result, Dhaka was practically isolated from the rest of the country, and the supply of goods was stopped. As a result, the inflation rate in food products increased to 14.10 percent in July.

In August 2023, food inflation increased to 12.54 percent, which was the highest in 12 years. Previously, the highest inflation in food was in October 2011. At that time, 12.82 percent inflation was seen.
