GrameenPhone Paid Tk 1000 crore to BTRC

GrameenPhone has paid Tk 1000 crore to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Sunday after long battle between the regulator.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Mostafa Jabbar at his verified facebook page has said “I got the good news that GrameenPhone has paid the money,”.

A team today visited BTRC with its Head of regulatory Sadat Hossain and handed over a cheque equivalent with Tk 1000 crore to the Chairman of the BTRC.

The long drawn-out legal battle between GP and BTRC over unpaid dues amounting to Tk 12,580 crore has reach a critical junction.

Earlier the mobile network operator’s review petition, in which it sought permission to pay Tk 575 crore in instalments against dues, is scheduled to be held today.

The appeal is number 182 on the Supreme Court’s cause list, said officials related to the process.
